Future of bibliographic control

workinggroup.jpgI am a member of the Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control convened by Deanna Marcum of the Library of Congress.

Advances in search-engine technology, the popularity of the Internet and the influx of electronic information resources have greatly changed the way libraries do their work. To address those changes, the Library of Congress has convened a Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control to examine the future of bibliographic description in the 21st century. [About – Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control (Library of Congress)]

The group will report its findings in November 2007. The group has had one meeting [pdf] and decided a course of action. We have an interesting and complex task ahead of us.

  1. That looks like the same tank-top you were wearing when you interviewed me for the post of UKOLN Information Officer in 1995. Time for a clothes shopping trip, perhaps – or is it a subtle hint to your other half about what you want for Christmas :-)
