Specializing Google

In association with the Frankfurt Book Fair literacy campaign (Litcam) and Unesco’s Institute for Lifelong Learning, Google has launched the Google Literacy Project.
It collocates access to a range of Google resources: book search, scholar, blogger, blogsearch, groups, maps, video. Interestingly, the main Google search engine is not included.
It does some work to specialize stuff to the topic (e.g. within the maps section), and there are some canned searches. Overall, one could imagine how it could be more specialized to the needs of those interested in this topic and how the various services presented could be more integrated.
However, it is interesting seeing the collection of Google services laid out in this way.

  1. Google will never let us down. The next step should be the translation of this project in other languages. In Greece it would be an extremely useful tool, as we have very few information literacy classes at school.
