QOTD - Bodley's Librarian

 •  Categories: Libraries - organization and services

From the further information posted in relation to the advert for Bodley's Librarian and Director of University Library Services at the University of Oxford.

The first holder of the post of Bodley’s Librarian was Thomas James, appointed in 1598. Sir Thomas Bodley enjoined that his Librarian should be ‘one that is noted and known for a diligent student, and in all his conversation to be trusty, active, and discreet: a graduate also, and a linguist’.
Any discreet linguists who wish to apply can find the details linked from here. I read with interest the note in the advert that Oxford University Library Services' "holdings of primary research materials are the most extensive of any university in the world".
