A little learning ...August 21, 2006 • Categories: General - distributed environments , Learning and research - distributed environments , Learning and research - systems and technologiesA couple of resources about learning, services and the network:
Seems to me that the intense focus on the relationship between library resources and instittutional learning environments has lessened a little in the last year or so. Perhaps, because folks are standing back a little as so much is still in flux? I still wonder that we do not see more integration around reading lists, citation managers, and collaborative bookmarking approaches. Incidentally, I have not kept track of whether the RLI spec from IMS has been usefully deployed. Related entries: |

On reading lists, I agree. But perhaps you're not looking in the right place? Social networking sites like CiteULike and Connotea use the appropriate technology for this sort of thing (RSS 1.0), and they're generally quite popular. While they aren't yet as integrated with the desktop as I'd like (note, I didn't say "citation managers," because to me services like this are the future of citation maangement), that will come with a little more time.
RLI, OTOH, is a horribly over-engineered non-standard that almost seems designed to drive developers away.
