Worldcat.org and articles

 •  Categories: OCLC , Search

A couple of folks asked me about article level metadata in worldcat.org as in, for example:

Manuel Castells

Seamus Deane

James Gleick

Details are available on the OCLC website:

OCLC has added article-level citation records to WorldCat.org search results from four FirstSearch base package databases: GPO, ArticleFirst, Medline and ERIC. [Article-level citation records added to WorldCat.org [OCLC]]

Worldcat.org offers other library services if it recognizes an incoming IP address. So, for example, here is what I see. I have links through to a resolver and catalog at the OCLC Library which show up as links under the entry. It will link through to fulfilment options where it knows about them; here it knows that my library subscribes to an appropriate fulltext resource so I can go through.

Wow! This is a big deal, isn't it? It made for far more satisfactory ego-surfing, anyway! Will we see this show up in Identities?
